FLORENCE, Ore. — Oregon State Police is investigating the death of a 59-year-old Eugene man who was crushed by a log Sunday.
Troopers say around 6 p.m., on the beach near the Driftwood Shores Resort, the man was standing on a log when the tide came in. The tide rolled the log causing him to fall and then crushed him.
An off-duty Eugene-Springfield firefighter was on scene quickly and provided care. When a Western Lane Ambulance and Siuslaw Fire arrived, the man still had a pulse and was somewhat breathing.
The man was transported to Peace Harbor Hospital where he died due to his injuries.
